November arrives with an artistic program full of new developments. From the spirituality of Yoko Ono to the chromatic sensuality of Matisse.

Seven artistic highlights that intertwine real and mythological stories from the past and present. In this way, they remind us that art is essential for understanding our world and, in addition, for being able to engage with it and reinvent it.

Fantastic beasts

The Centre d’Art Amatller opens the doors to The Fantastic Library of Beasts, an immersive experience that reinvents medieval imagery through art and technology. Inspired by the success of the MEV’s Beasts exhibition, the show invites us to explore ten rooms where virtual reality, cinema and interactivity bring to life creatures that populated ancient bestiaries. Dragons, mermaids, phoenixes and centaurs were part of the mysteries of the soul and nature.

For a song to the voice of Yoko Ono

MUSAC  is dedicating a major retrospective to Yoko Ono with Insound and Instructure, an exhibition that traces more than six decades of creation, from the radical gestures of conceptual art in the 1960s to her relentless activism for peace. Seventy works make up the sensory map of her universe: performances, films, installations and visual scores. In them, silence, voice and action merge in the same creative impulse. The museum continues to host works by great artists who have questioned and denounced social and political issues. Last year, it opened its doors to the exhibition Ai Weiwei. Don Quixote, in which the artist defended freedom of expression and human rights through his works.

Across eight rooms, we explore the parallel universes of these geniuses who transformed art and humanist thought. From the Mona Lisa to David, the exhibition traces a dialogue between painting, sculpture, science and spirituality. Little by little, the tension between Leonardo’s reason and Michelangelo’s emotional force is revealed.

CaixaForum celebrates the colour of Matisse

CaixaForum Madridpresents Matisse, a major exhibition dedicated to the genius who revolutionised modern art with his luminous vision of colour and his break with established norms. Mostly from the Centre Pompidou, the exhibition brings together 95 works organised into eight sections that trace his evolution: from his early apprenticeship with Gustave Moreau to the radical freedom of his later years. In each room, colour becomes thought, emotion and a language that transforms the space.

The exhibition is complemented by a dialogue between Matisse and the artists who accompanied him or followed in his footsteps: the vibrant dances of Emil Nolde, the chromatic force of Goncharova, and the deserts of Pechstein. As the century progressed and war broke out, his works became more introspective, only to be reborn in the famous gouaches découpés. The exhibition ends with digital reinterpretations and contemporary tributes, revealing how Matisse’s vision continues to be a starting point for lovers of painting.

When? Until 22 February 2026.
Where?
Paseo del prado, 36, Madrid.

Monday to Sunday from 10.00h a 20.00h
