Every year, when December arrives, many typical Christmas products are prepared on the tables. Wrapped in nougat, gingerbread biscuits or marzipan, sweet foods are the most consumed. Among them we also find panettones, a sweet bread filled with sultanas and candied fruit, originally from Italy. This 2022, the city of Barcelona has received the award for the best chocolate panettone in Spain through the bakery-school L’Atelier. And to celebrate it in the best way, they have joined forces with the Elena Barraquer Foundation, under the slogan The best panettone helps thousands of people to recover their sight. Donating part of the profits from the best solidarity panettone to the projects carried out by Fundació Elena Barraquer to fight against cataracts.

L’Atelier inaugurates the season with the Panettone Solidario. Three proposals are offered; the traditional one, chocolate and reus

As part of one of the most prestigious ophthalmological sagas, Elena Barraquer grew up with the vocation of helping others to maintain healthy sight. Bearing in mind that cataracts are the leading cause of avoidable blindness, as 80% of cases can be solved. Thus, by embarking on the foundation’s project, they have been able to perform more than 12,000 cataract operations in 40 medical expeditions.

Different developing countries are very disadvantaged, and since 2017 they have been able to visit more than 80,000 patients and delivering more than 50,000 glasses in places like Cape Verde, Ghana, Kenya, among many others. The support of companies has always been present, and l’Atelier has not hesitated to join the cause. Since it opened its doors in 2019, the patisserie has been characterised by the details in its elaborations, counting on the best products to be able to offer high quality desserts.

The presentation of the 2022 Christmas menu of l’Atelier was attended by the president of the foundation, Elena Barraquer and Enric Ortuño, one of the founding partners of the bakery.

From classic to avant-garde cakes, ice cream or pastries, but all handmade. Over the last three years, their philosophy has allowed them to win several awards. For the best Dulcypas tea pastry, the best coca de Sant Joan and the Fava de Cacao prize. In addition to being awarded this year with the best artisan chocolate panettone in the country. In this way, they join Barraquer to end the year and start it looking towards the world. Being supportive and helping to give back the light to many eyes.
